Hepatobiliarypancreatic ARCC

The Advanced Research Center for Cancer started as one of the national cancer control projects in 2006. Some of the monies are spent to support the local cancer centers to raise their research abilities. The Jeonbuk Cancer Center has received research monies for the special research center, which is different from other centers. Hepatobiliarypancreatic ARCC received the largest amount of money among the local cancer centers.
Our differentiated research center has resulted in excellent research accomplishments since initial studies, and the principal investigators are still supported by the government. More growth is expected not only during the contracted four years, but after the project is over. A hepatobiliarypancreatic cancer resists conventional treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, and mostly depends on resection including transplant operations, so quick understanding of location, size, relation with surrounding tissues, and metastasis is important.
New surgery techniques are expected due to anatomical studies for practical application. A precise and safe surgery is expected due to the development of a program which can provide simulated surgery environments in a virtual space.

Special features of ARCC

Morphological characteristics of hepatobiliarypancreas and the study of practical applications.

  • Identification of developmental process, preparation using 3D image data, morphological characteristics and the study of practical applications regarding the caudate lobe, the production of vascular cast, infrastructure development for hepatobiliarypancreatic anatomical data and evaluation of a hepatobiliarypancreatic cancer before surgery, the development of simulated surgery data.

Diagnosis, treatment, and the development of prognosis target for hepatobiliarypancreatic cancer by the study of genomics and proteomics

  • Establishment of hepatobiliarypancreatic cancer cell strains of cDNA microarray for researching the genes related liver cancer; Management of cell strains and tissue banks, finding biomarkers related liver cancer

Realistic alternatives to systemic treatment for hepatobiliarypancreatic cancer, and the study of immunotherapy

  • The study to find the signal pathways to examine PPARg in transplantation immunity, search of agonist and antagonist to regulate immune response such as PPARg

Anatomical and functional structure of hepatobiliarypancreas, production of practical imaging agents

  • Check and arrange for available substances as imaging agents, and production of candidates
